James Villeneuve, Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs talks about Anheuser-Busch InBev's commitment to Promoting Responsible Drinking

Commitment

At Anheuser-Busch InBev we are committed to supporting a cohesive and comprehensive policy of corporate social responsibility. There are three main areas in which we apply this policy.

Responsible drinking

Our view is that we brew our beers to be enjoyed responsibly by those of legal drinking age. In fact, the vast majority of our consumers drink responsibly, and we believe this is not only better for them, it's better for society as a whole. Responsible drinking is also in the interests of our company and its brands in the long term. Because we prefer our consumers to savour our products rather than misuse them, we have programmes in more than 30 markets to promote responsible drinking. We support existing legal drinking age restrictions, and support their introduction where they do not currently exist. We also promote enforcement mechanisms such as training shop and bar staff, promoting age checks and raising awareness amongst young people, parents and teachers. We also support the strong enforcement of drink driving legislation, as well as specific campaigns to raise awareness of this issue.

Responsible marketing

We take great pride in producing and marketing our beers with quality and care. Our Corporate Communications Code has been designed to ensure that all our marketing and promotions are carried out in a responsible manner. By adhering to this code, we demonstrate best practice leadership in this area and so help to protect our business from future regulatory restrictions to the marketing and advertising freedoms we currently enjoy. This is why we are also active in providing evidence to the supervisory bodies involved in our various markets to show that self-regulation is effective.
