In 2016, our colleagues in Brazil launched a first-of-its-kind online platform in order to share water management best practices used in our breweries. As a direct response to feedback we received from our local Water Experts Advisory Group, we partnered with two NGOs, the Carbon Trust and Fundación Avina, along with the UN Global Compact, to create SAVEh, an online platform through which we are sharing our knowledge with small and medium-sized businesses in Brazil.
SAVEh’s program begins with helping small and medium companies perform a self-evaluation that identifies which areas of the business could significantly impact their water consumption. Companies can then select from a list of tailored actions to improve water management in key business areas. This process leads to a unique action plan that can be monitored and adapted on a monthly basis. Finally, companies can utilize the platform to create customizable reports to share their progress with internal and external stakeholders.
For the past 13 years, using the same water management techniques shared publically on SAVEh, our Brazilian operations reduced their water usage ratio by more than 40%, and we hope to enable other businesses that rely on water as the primary component of their production process to do the same. As part of our commitment to the UN Global Compact (UNGC) CEO Water Mandate, we are making the SAVEh platform free to use for all companies.
Looking forward, we plan to monitor the performance of the platform in Brazil in 2017 and, eventually, hope to scale the model globally, making it available to all interested UNGC members.
